From Paris With Love

Poppy flew in from Paris today, or to be more specific, from her photoshoot in the Gardens of Versailles, where she has been on modelling assignment for the past few months. She looked so fresh and alive as she entered her hotel room wearing a beautiful floral gown.

On the 28th November, 1973, The Battle of Versailles Fashion Show, was held at the Palace of Versailles near Paris. Created by Eleanor Lambert and Versailles curator Gerald Van der Kemp to raise funds for the palace restoration. Five French couturiers; Yves Saint-Laurent, Givenchy, Dior, Ungaro and Cardin were pitted against five American fashion designers; Oscar De La Renta, Anne Klein, Bill Blass, Halston and Steven Burrows. Ten of the greats from both sides of the Atlantic, were showing together for the very first time.

You can see similarities in the design of Poppy's gown to the originals below, but there was no use of the floral print. In fact, the show featured mostly monotone and colour block garments throughout the show.

The models above who set a precedence and stole the show, looked like they belonged to the 1920's rather than the 1970's, but what stunning creations they wore! I adore the dress on the right, it's exquisite and it certainly wouldn't look at all out of place if worn to The White Panther Jazz Club.

  1. Thank you so much YeYe, I'm actually hoping to take Poppy with me when I visit Paris next year. I was a little disappointed with her hair, unlike Tulabelle's curls which are soft and seperate, it's so fine that it tends to matt at the ends.

I love those fashions too, they are very much suited to the Art Deco period of the 1920-30's which I love.

  3. Congrats on the arrival. She looks stunning. Her dress is really pretty. I can see where they got the inspiration from. Wow but I can't get over how well they did this Poppy.
